According to existing rules, the top-100 stocks by market capitalisation, i.e. market cap, are designated as large caps; the next 150 as mid caps, and those ranked 251 and onwards as small caps. But in view of the changing landscape of Indian markets, it may be time for the market regulator, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), to revise the market cap categorisation definitions a bit.
